eDemocracyCamp: A Barcamp on e-Democracy

NCDD member, Tim Bonnemann, announced at a recent NCDD 2008 planning team conference call that he’s organizing an eDemocracy event in Washington, D.C. at the beginning of March. Although a location has not been chosen yet, eDemocracyCamp (a barcamp on e-democracy) will be held the weekend of March 1-2, 2008. Announcements are being placed through Twitter, and also Facebook, where you can sign up for the event. You can also sign up on the event’s wiki page at the Barcamp website.

More information on barcamps and this event after the break.

From Tim’s announcement…

What is a barcamp? A barcamp is a free, open, and highly participatory conference/workshop, at which both the agenda and the content are completely attendee-driven (oftentimes in an ad hoc fashion the day of the event). The barcamp movement started in 2005 in Palo Alto, CA, and barcamps are now being held all across the world.

If you live in the greater DC area or know anyone there who is into this type of stuff, please help spread the word. At this point, we’re just trying to connect with people and organizations who might have interesting things to contribute. We’re hoping to attract a diverse audience (people from the political, non-profit, government, and education/research sector, techies/geeks as well as — most importantly — ordinary citizens). There’s five weeks left until eDemocracyCamp, and quite a bit of work to be done to make it happen. This is a community event and we need everybody’s help to pull it off.

Feel free to contact Tim if you have any questions (or use the online tools listed above to connect with the attendees).
